How The Foundation Got its’ start

The Foundation was formed by residents of the Shadow Wood communities who held fundraisers benefiting Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties! Between 2004 and 2012, more than $1.1 million was raised.

After the 2012 fundraiser, a decision was made to expand support to other local charities serving those in need. A corporation in June 2012 and the Foundation obtained its IRS section 501(c)(3) qualification as a public charity in September 2012.

Most of the funds are generated during our annual golf tournament, which includes raffles and auctions; held in February at Shadow Wood Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida.  Contributions from individuals and businesses help make our fundraisers successful. Volunteers come from Shadow Wood at The Brooks and Shadow Wood Preserve communities.

Since 2012, the Foundation has made grants to local charities and set aside funds for scholarships and emergency relief programs that together exceed $4 million, including over $1 million in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2021.

We are proud to say that many residents of the Shadow Wood communities are active in serving and leading our select charities.
